My philosophy about teaching is simple, show kids you care and kids will show you what they can do, show kids that you don’t care and they’ll show you what they can do. Madeline Hunter said it best by saying, “Kids don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” One of the biggest misconceptions that educators have about students today is that students should already come to school knowing what is expected of them and being able to do it. If that were the case then we would all be out of jobs. This belief has hindered some of the best educators and caused many talented teachers to leave the profession. Every student that walks through our doors brings with them a different and unique story that they want to share. Regardless of their ethnic background, parents socio-economic status or the types of neighborhoods students come from, they all want to know that their teachers value them as human beings and want to see them strive to reach their full potential. I fully understand the challenges that we face as educators. Our students are coming to school with fewer positive role models and even fewer social skills. There certainly isn’t much we can do when students leave our doors at the end of the day, but during the time we have them we can positively shape their minds and ultimately. I am fully dedicated to seeing educators become successful in educating students and sharpening their craft. After all, if it weren’t for a handful of teachers along with my mother being a teacher herself, I don’t know where I would be today. Through practical, easy and ready to implement strategies you’ll quickly find yourself in more control of yourself, your students, and your classroom. You will see an immediate difference and remember why you became a teacher. Teaching is the most challenging job you will ever have, but it can also be the most rewarding. Let’s get back to teaching and having fun while doing it.
